HUM 3720 - Advanced Critical Thinking

Prerequisite(s): ENG 1270.
This course is an introduction to the evaluation of forms of argument; recognition and detection of argumentative fallacies; deductive and inductive thinking; and formal logical structures. Credit(s): 3 (3 plus 0)

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Identify the variety of speech-acts.
Recognize the two major kinds of argumentation (deduction and Induction).
Evaluate inductive arguments based upon the criteria of strong and weak.
Critique deductive arguments in terms of validity or invalidity.
Construct truth tables.
Prove deductively valid arguments using the rules of propositional and predicate logic.
