HUM 3720 - Advanced Critical Thinking Prerequisite(s): ENG 1270 . This course is an introduction to the evaluation of forms of argument; recognition and detection of argumentative fallacies; deductive and inductive thinking; and formal logical structures. Credit(s): 3 (3 plus 0)
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify the variety of speech-acts.
- Recognize the two major kinds of argumentation (deduction and Induction).
- Evaluate inductive arguments based upon the criteria of strong and weak.
- Critique deductive arguments in terms of validity or invalidity.
- Construct truth tables.
- Prove deductively valid arguments using the rules of propositional and predicate logic.
