Computer Engineering, B.S.

The computer engineering program is designed to develop professionals who will analyze, design, construct and maintain hardware and software systems. The program is structured so that studies in mathematics and science prepare the student for the theory of electric circuits, numerical techniques and programming languages. Building on this foundation, studies in computer science, electronics, digital logic and microprocessors build to an advanced study of computer hardware. Each of these areas is supported by formal laboratory experimentation and hardware design projects. Graduates of the computer engineering program will work on a variety of challenging projects within the areas of computer architecture, computer logic design, computer networks and communications.

Indiana Tech computer engineering graduates are expected, within a few years of graduation:

  1. To be engaged in computer engineering-related fields or in other career fields in industry, business, academe, government, or non-profit organizations, with increasing responsibilities.
  2. To continue lifelong learning through activities such as enhancing their technical skills, advancing study in computer engineering graduate programs or other related areas, participating in professional organizations, and continuing professional development.
  3. To engage in innovation and/or entrepreneurship activities that address global, economic, environmental, or societal needs.

Student Learning Outcomes

Computer engineering graduates will successfully demonstrate the 7 ABET program outcomes:

  1. an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles on engineering, science, and mathematics.
  2. an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors. 
  3. an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
  4. an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
  5. an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
  6. an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
  7. an ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
