Forensic Science - Biology Concentration, B.S.

Indiana Tech’s Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science will prepare students for a variety of laboratory-based and advanced forensic science careers. Students choosing this major learn about the latest advancements in technologies, materials, and methods used in forensic laboratories to determine the composition and source of forensic evidence. 

With this major, the students can choose between two pathways: Biology or Criminalistics.

The Forensic Science - Biology Concentration, B.S. provides students with a solid foundation in Math and Science with a particular emphasis on DNA analysis and prepares students for a wide range of careers in academia, industry, and government. For example, Forensic Science Laboratories may hire students who went through this program as Forensic Biologists, also known as Forensic DNA Analysts. 

Program Learning Outcomes

1. Explain concepts that guide the system of justice. 
 
2. Describe the role of forensic science in the criminal justice system. 
 
3. Explain how professional ethics and impartiality apply to forensic science. 
 
4. Present in written and oral formats description of items of evidence, laboratory procedures and analysis of scientific data. 
 
5. Explain requirements for forensic sample collection, storage, and chain of custody. 

6. Design experiments using the scientific method. 

7. Interpret data from forensic analytical instruments.
