Environmental Science - Sustainability Concentration, B.S.

The Environmental Science program is designed to provide a well-rounded education for understanding and addressing environmental challenges through interdisciplinary methods. It focuses on equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to balance economic, social, and environmental interests while promoting long-term sustainability.

  • Comprehensive Scope: Explores both natural and human-made systems, integrating physical, chemical, and biological processes.
  • Interdisciplinary Approach: Encourages evaluating environmental issues from multiple perspectives to identify root causes and develop solutions.
  • Skill Development: Offers hands-on training in scientific research, environmental monitoring, data analysis, and technology use.
  • Holistic Education: Cultivates communication, leadership, and ethical decision-making abilities for real-world application.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Explain the structure, function, and interactions of natural and human-made environmental systems.

  2. Evaluate complex environmental challenges by integrating perspectives from physical, biological, and social sciences.

  3. Create innovative, evidence-based solutions that promote sustainability and address root causes of environmental issues.
  4. Conduct scientific research to investigate environmental processes and impacts, utilizing appropriate methodologies and tools.

  5. Apply advanced technologies (e.g., GIS, remote sensing, and environmental monitoring instruments) to collect, analyze, and interpret environmental data.
  6. Communicate environmental concepts effectively to diverse audiences through written reports, presentations, and digital media.

  7. Apply leadership skills by facilitating discussions, managing projects, and promoting inclusive decision-making in research groups.
