The mission of the Communication program is to provide students from diverse backgrounds with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to listen, understand, and share information of local and global significance. Using theory and professional practices, students will understand organizations and audiences in various dynamic media professions, which compliments their participation in university professional, and community activities. This supports the university’s mission by preparing students for active participation, career development, and leadership in the complex, global society of the 21st century.
A communications degree from Indiana Tech prepares a student for a flexible job future. In addition to possible graduate study, Communications majors earn positions in such fields as:

Student Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate an understanding of the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, and historical trends in the field of communication.
- Demonstrate an understanding of ethical behavior and its importance in the field of communication.
- Demonstrate the ability to conduct research and write appropriately using forms and styles for specific communication professions, audiences and purposes.
- Demonstrate proficiency in rhetorical strategies and evaluate information appropriate to methods in the field of communication.
- Demonstrate the ability to present a sustained, reasoned argument using appropriate presentation tools in a highly professional manner.
