Electrical Engineering Technology, A.S.

The Associates in Electrical Engineering Technology program prepares graduates for a successful career as an electrical, electronic, or engineering technician. Studies in mathematics and science are coupled with courses focusing on the analysis, building, and testing of circuits; areas of focus include analog and digital circuits, microprocessors, electrical machines, and electronic instrumentation. Students in the program engage with these focus areas in classes and in laboratory settings, which provide them with both theoretical knowledge and the hands-on application of that knowledge. This approach enables graduates to work in a variety of careers including the testing of electrical systems, maintenance of electrical systems, support of manufacturing processes, and installation of electrical systems. 

Program Learning Outcomes


Upon completion of the Associate of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology students will:


a) Demonstrate the scientific, engineering, and technical skill necessary to pursue a career as an
electrical, electronic, or engineering technician.
b) Apply techniques in building, testing, operation, and maintenance of electronic/computer
systems.
c) Demonstrate communications skills necessary to function effectively as a member of a team.

Student Learning Outcomes


The student learning outcomes listed below are required for ABET accreditation. Assessment of these
outcomes needs to be built into program at its initial launch. Students graduating with an Associate of Science in Electrical Engineering will have the following
learned capabilities:

  1. An ability to apply the knowledge, techniques, skills, and modern tools of the discipline to narrowly defined engineering technology activities;
  2. An ability to apply a knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to engineering technology problems that require limited application of principles but extensive practical knowledge;
  3. An ability to conduct standard tests and measurements, and to conduct, analyze, and interpret experiments;
  4. An ability to function effectively as a member of a technical team;
  5. An ability to identify, analyze, and solve narrowly defined engineering technology prnblems;
  6. An ability to apply written. oral, and graphical communication in both technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature;
  7. An understanding of the need for and an ability to engage in self-directed continuing professional development;
  8. An understanding of and a commitment to address professional and ethical responsibilities, including a respect for diversity; and
  9. A commitment to quality, timeliness, and continuous improvement.
