CJ 4120 - Death Investigation Prerequisite(s): CJ 2500 . This course is designed to briefly cover how to recognize and investigate violent, suspicious or unexpected deaths. The student will learn to develop the essential facts regarding the death scene, medical history and other information that assists in the determination of a person’s cause and manner of death. The course will cover the 29 national guidelines set forth by the National Institutes of Justice as essential for a coordinated, efficient and complete death investigation. Basic crime scene investigation techniques will be stressed, along with the importance of crime scene and body evidence, however, this course emphasizes the medical aspects of death investigation and is not designed to be a “homicide seminar”.
