BIO 3840 - Advanced Microbiology Prerequisite(s): BIO 3000 . Co-requisite(s): BIO 3850 . This course is preparation for the next professional step. Students study the microbiology of life and death, microbiomes and decomposers, health and disease. Focused on primary journal articles, students will apply foundational principles to those articles and interpret data that impacts epidemiology, bioterrorism, and forensic science. Areas of focus include structure and metabolism of microorganisms, microbial pathogenesis, as well as organism dispersal, replication, and identification. The associated lab (BIO 3850) partners with these content areas to promote student skill development as it pertains to the handling, testing, and identification of microorganisms. Credit(s): 3
